Mumbai, India
Substantial linen

In India, where handcraftsmanship still thrives,
this linen is carefully spun and woven
into a refined fabric that grows beautifully with time and use.

Quality Features What makes it special

  • Substantial linen

With a natural weight and gentle expression unique to 100% linen, this fabric is soft and supple, and develops character with use. Using flax sourced from France, the yarns are spun and woven in India to create a refined fabric.

  • Supple and durable

Because linen fibers hold air within them, the fabric offers excellent moisture absorption and quick-drying properties. Among natural fibers, it is especially strong, with a crisp, firm feel balanced by pleasant softness.

Material Story The process behind the product

  • 01Crafted in Mumbai

India is often described as a showcase of textiles, where traditional handcraftsmanship still thrives. Mumbai is not only a commercial and cultural hub but also a city lined with colorful markets and workshops. In this city, Futo’s linen items are crafted.

  • 02From flax to linen

Flax, the raw material of linen, grows quickly and requires little water or pesticides, making it a sustainable resource. At Futo, our flax is sourced from France, then spun in India and woven into fabric.

  • 03Weave and expression

The fabric is woven on a machine called an air-jet loom, which propels the weft with air. While this method is fast and produces consistent quality, the texture tends to be flat. By washing the fabric, we bring out the yarn’s natural softness and expression.

  • 04Sewing and handwork

Futo’s linen items are crafted by skilled artisans at a factory on the outskirts of Mumbai. Drawing on years of experience and technique, they cut and sew the fabric with precision, always attentive to its character. Their careful handwork gives the pieces warmth, and the character of each item continues to deepen with use.

  • 05Hand-guided embroidery

Instead of using a fully automated machine, the embroidery is done with a hand-operated machine that allows the pattern to be guided by touch. Every embroidery varies subtly in shape and thickness, a result of handwork that naturally harmonizes with the softness of the fabric.
